2003 07c Mesa Verde : On July 5, Jean, Dean, Heather, and Tyler were out of Durango and into Mesa Verde National Park. We stayed at the Far View Lodge inside the Park. I took a tour of Balcony House and then Jean and I tried to get some late afternoon shots of Cliff Palace. The next day we all took a full-day guided tour of the park, including a ranger-led tour of Cliff Palace. We made another attempt at late afternoon cliff dwelling shots. The next day we were off to The Grand Canyon. A week after we left Mesa Verde, dry lightning strikes ignited three wildfires in the park. Mesa Verde was evacuated and closed for several days.

2003 07b Durango Train : On July 3, Jean and I spent the morning in Arches, then hit the highway south and east to Durango, CO. There we met up with Heather and Tyler at the Rio Grande Hotel. The next day, we rode the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Train from Durango to Silverton.
